A warm neutral crochet table runner built from overlapping cream circular motifs, dark brown edging, small flowers and textured leaves. The design has a soft cottage and farmhouse feel and works especially well on light wood or neutral dining tables.
Finished size is approximately 32 to 38 cm wide and 125 to 155 cm long, depending on the number and diameter of the circles.

Construction overview
Make several flat circular motifs in cream, edge each one in brown, then overlap them slightly into a long runner. Small cream flowers and brown leaves are added along the outside to soften the joins and create a botanical border.
A medium runner can use 7 to 8 circles in mixed sizes, 4 small flowers and 12 to 18 leaves.
Large circle motif
Round 1. Work 12 dc into MR.
Round 2. Work 2 dc in each stitch around.
Round 3. *Dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch.* Repeat around.
Continue increasing evenly until the circle reaches about 20 cm across.
For the subtle concentric ridges, work every second or third round through the back loop only.
Medium circle motif
Work the same pattern as the large circle but stop when the piece measures 15 to 17 cm across.
Using several sizes prevents the arrangement from looking too rigid.
Brown edging
Join dark brown yarn anywhere around the circle.
Work one round of sc evenly around.
For a slightly thicker edge, add a second round of reverse sc or hdc.
Fasten off neatly and weave in ends before assembly.
Small flower motif
With cream yarn, work 10 sc into MR.
*Ch 3, work 2 dc in the same stitch, ch 3, sl st into the next stitch.* Repeat five times to form five rounded petals.
For a fuller flower, add a second layer of slightly larger petals behind the first.
Crochet leaf
With brown yarn, ch 9.
Starting in the second chain work sc, hdc, dc, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc.
Work 3 sc into the last chain and mirror the stitches down the opposite side.
Surface sl st along the centre to create a raised vein.
Arranging the runner
Place the circles so they overlap by approximately 2 to 4 cm.
Alternate larger and smaller discs and keep the overall centre line straight.
Place the largest circles near the centre and the smallest circles near the ends for a gentle taper.
Adding flowers and leaves
Attach flowers near selected circle joins.
Arrange leaves in clusters of two or three around each flower.
Leave some joins undecorated so the design stays airy rather than crowded.
Joining method
Sew circles together only where they overlap. Use a few small hidden stitches on the wrong side.
Sew flowers at the centre and tack leaf bases firmly, leaving the pointed ends free for dimension.
Blocking
Block all circles individually before joining.
After assembly, lightly block the whole runner so the overlapping circles lie evenly without becoming stiff.
Colour variations
Coffee house: cream, espresso and caramel.
Soft farmhouse: ivory, taupe and mocha.
Spring: cream, sage and dusty rose.
Holiday: cream, forest green and burgundy.
Questions I get asked
Can all circles be the same size? Yes, but mixing sizes gives a more organic look.
Can I join as I go? Yes, although sewing after blocking gives more control over placement.
Can this be used as placemats? Absolutely. Individual circles can be used separately as matching placemats.
