A playful set of long spiral ornaments with doll-like Christmas characters, pointed hats, striped coils and bead finishes, including a snowman variation.
Finished size can be adjusted easily by changing yarn weight, hook size, motif count or overall hanging/runner length.
What you’ll need
DK cotton, light worsted or soft acrylic yarn in red, green, mint, blush, cream, gold and black.

Construction overview
Most hanging designs are made in separate components: a top character or motif, a long spiral ribbon or chain, small appliques and a weighted bottom charm. Crochet and finish each piece first, then assemble on a strong central hanging cord.
Spiral ribbon
Chain to the desired length. Work multiple stitches into each chain—commonly 2 to 4 dc or hdc per chain—to force the strip into a corkscrew. For a wider ribbon, begin with a narrow foundation strip and work contrast edging along both sides.
Character or top motif
For a round head, work 6 sc in MR, increase evenly to the desired width, work several even rounds, then decrease and lightly stuff. Add hats, hair, beard, ears or facial embroidery as required by the pictured design.
Small appliques and charms
Snowflakes, stars, holly leaves, flowers and miniature trees can be crocheted separately and sewn onto the spiral. Keep small motifs light so the hanging remains balanced.
Assembly
Thread or crochet a strong central cord from the top loop to the bottom charm. Position the spiral around it and tack it at intervals so the turns remain even. Add beads, bells or ornaments only after the main structure hangs straight.
Finishing
Weave in ends securely. Shape the spiral by hand and lightly steam from a distance if the yarn allows it. Make sure beads, bells and small parts are sewn very firmly, especially if the ornament will be handled.
