Materials
Use green cream white red brown black orange gold and a little pink yarn. A 2.5 mm to 3 mm hook works well for small charms. You will also need fiberfill a yarn needle scissors small wooden beads and a strong center cord. Optional safety eyes may be used but embroidered eyes are safer for small decorative pieces.
Main Spiral
With cream ch 170. Work 3 dc in each chain to create a long curl. Join muted green and work one sc along one edge. Join cream again and work one sc along the opposite edge. If you want a wider ribbon add one more hdc row in green. Shape the spiral by hand so the turns remain even.
Star Topper
With gold or yellow make 10 sc in MR. For each of 5 points ch 5. Sl st in second ch then work sc hdc and dc down the chain. Sl st in next base stitch. Repeat 5 times. Make a second star if you want a thicker topper. Sew the stars together lightly and attach to the top cord.
Mini Christmas Tree Charm
With green make 6 sc in MR. Increase to 12. Work one round even. Next round make small shell groups around by working sc hdc 3 dc hdc sc into selected stitches. Work a second wider shell row below. Add a small brown trunk made from 6 chains and 2 sc rows. Sew on red bead style knots and a tiny yellow star.
Mini Santa Head
With skin color make 6 sc in MR. Increase to 12 then 18. Work 4 rounds even. Decrease to 12 while stuffing lightly then close. Make a red cap with 6 sc in MR. Work two even rounds then increase gradually until it fits the head. Add a white brim and white pom pom. Embroider eyes. Add a white beard using small puff stitches or short looped chains.
Mini Reindeer Head
With brown make 6 sc in MR. Increase to 12 then 18. Work 4 rounds even. Decrease and stuff. Make a red nose from 6 sc in MR. For antlers chain 7 and slip stitch back. Add two 3 chain side branches to each antler. Sew antlers and nose in place and embroider the eyes.
Mini Snowman
Make a head with 6 sc in MR. Increase to 12 then 18. Work 3 rounds even. Decrease and stuff. Make a body the same way but increase to 24 before working even rounds. Sew head and body together. Add black button stitches orange nose and a red or green scarf. Make a small black hat if desired.
Mini Gingerbread Figure
With warm brown make an oval body by chaining 7 and working around both sides of the chain. Increase at both ends for two rounds. For arms and legs make short 7 chain strips and work sc back. Sew them to the body. Add white icing lines with surface slip stitches. Add a red bow or buttons and embroider a smiling face.
Mini Heart
With red make 6 sc in MR. In the next round work dc tr 3 tr dc sc then repeat the same sequence on the opposite half to form two lobes. Work 3 dc in the lower center to form the point. Tighten and fasten off.
Mini Round Baubles
Make 6 sc in MR. Increase to 12 then 18. Work 2 rounds even. Decrease back to 12. Add a little stuffing. Decrease to close. Embroider a tiny snowflake or add a contrast line.
Mini Snowflakes
Make 6 sc in MR. For each arm ch 5 then slip stitch back with one small side picot. Repeat 6 times. Block flat.
Assembly
Thread a strong center cord from the star topper through the middle of the spiral. Add a wooden bead every 7 cm to 10 cm. Attach the charms to the center cord and to the spiral edges at different levels. Keep the heavier charms near the center so the mobile stays balanced. Finish the bottom with one gingerbread charm and two round baubles or any arrangement you like.
