Materials
Sport or light DK cotton yarn in burgundy or deep red, cream or ivory, and a small amount of white.
A small amount of gold or mustard yarn for the star, or a ready-made lightweight star charm if preferred.
2.5 mm to 3.0 mm crochet hook.
Yarn needle and scissors.
Small amount of polyester stuffing for the tree body.
8 to 14 small pearl beads or pearl-style craft beads.
One small gold jingle bell for the bottom.
Thin hanging cord, crochet thread, or matching yarn for the top loop.
Optional stitch markers and a small piece of floral wire if you want a very firm spiral shape.
Finished Size
With light DK yarn and a 2.75 mm hook, the finished ornament is approximately 20 to 24 cm tall from the top of the star to the bottom bell, and about 10 to 12 cm wide at the broadest point. The size can be changed by adding or removing increase rounds in the tree body.

Method
The ornament is made in separate parts. First crochet a firm tapered tree body in burgundy. Then crochet a long cream spiral strip and wrap it around the tree from top to bottom. A narrow burgundy edging is added to the cream strip so the spiral looks layered. The star, snowflakes, pearls, hanging loop, and bell are attached after the main tree is assembled.
Formation
The tree body gives the ornament its cone shape. The spiral strip should sit on the surface instead of being pulled tightly against the cone. As you sew it in place, keep the spaces between each turn even. The bottom should be wider and the upper turns should become gradually smaller as they approach the star.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Add enough stuffing to keep the cone firm but not hard. Close the bottom opening with a flat circular insert or gather the final round slightly and sew securely.

Use burgundy yarn.

Fasten off. Pin the circle to the bottom of the cone and sew it in place with small even stitches.
3. Cream Spiral Garland
Use cream yarn. This strip should curl naturally after the second row.
Ch 125. For a shorter ornament, ch 105 to 115. For a taller ornament, ch 135 to 145.
Row 1: Starting in the second ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 2. Work 2 hdc in each st across. The strip will begin to curl.
Row 3: Ch 1. Work 1 sc in each st across without increasing. Fasten off.
Gently shape the strip into a loose spiral with your hands. Do not block it flat.
4. Burgundy Edge on the Cream Garland
Join burgundy yarn at one long edge of the cream spiral strip.
Work 1 sl st in each edge stitch along the entire length.
For a thicker burgundy ridge, work 1 sc in each edge stitch instead of slip stitches.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
5. Gold Star Topper
Make 2 identical stars if you want a padded topper. Make only 1 star for a flat topper.
Rnd 1: With gold yarn, 10 sc in MR. Join with sl st.
Point 1: Ch 5. Sl st in second ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Hdc in next ch. Dc in last ch. Skip 1 base st and sl st in next base st.
Repeat the point sequence 4 more times to make 5 points total.
Fasten off. If making 2 stars, place them together, sew around the outer edge, and add a tiny amount of stuffing before closing.
6. Small White Snowflake Applique
Make 2 or 3 depending on the look you want.
Rnd 1: With white yarn, 6 sc in MR. Join with sl st.
Arm: Ch 5. Sl st in second ch from hook. Ch 3, sl st in same ch. Sl st in next ch. Ch 3, sl st in same ch. Sl st in remaining chains back to the center.
Sl st in next base st and repeat the arm sequence until 6 arms are complete.
Fasten off. Lightly steam or wet block the snowflakes so the points open neatly.
7. Pearl Decoration
Thread a strong sewing needle with matching cream or clear thread.
Sew small pearl beads along the outer edge of the cream spiral at irregular but balanced intervals.
A good starting arrangement is 2 to 3 pearls on each visible turn of the spiral.
Secure every bead individually so one broken thread does not release all the beads.
8. Bottom Bell
Cut a 12 to 15 cm length of strong gold cord or matching yarn.
Pass one end through the bell loop and tie securely.
Sew the upper end into the center of the tree bottom so the bell hangs approximately 2 to 3 cm below the ornament.
Add a small bead above the bell if desired.
9. Hanging Loop
Cut 22 to 26 cm of strong cream cord or yarn.
Fold it in half and tie the ends together.
Pass the loop through the top of the gold star or sew the knotted ends securely into the top of the tree body.
Check that the ornament hangs straight before tightening the final stitches.
Assembly
Place the burgundy cone upright on a flat surface.
Pin the cream spiral to the cone starting near the top. Leave approximately 1.5 to 2 cm between the first turns and gradually widen the spacing toward the bottom.
Sew the spiral to the cone with hidden cream stitches every 2 to 3 cm. Do not sew every stitch or the raised spiral effect will disappear.
Attach the gold star to the top of the cone.
Sew the white snowflakes onto the front-facing turns of the spiral.
Add the pearl beads after the spiral is secured so you can place them where they will be most visible.
Attach the bell to the bottom center.
Attach the hanging loop and hold the ornament up. Adjust the spiral with your fingers until the turns look even and the tree hangs vertically.
Optional Firmer Formation
If you want a very crisp tree shape, insert a short piece of coated floral wire inside the cream spiral before attaching it. Bend the wire into the desired spiral and sew the crochet strip around it with small hidden stitches. Keep the wire ends fully covered and bent inward.
Finishing
Weave in all yarn ends securely.
Use your fingers to reshape the star points and snowflake arms.
Do not flatten the spiral during blocking. Only shape the tree body and small appliques.
If the lower edge looks too wide, move the final spiral turn slightly upward and resew it.
Before displaying the ornament, check that the pearl beads, bell, and hanging loop are firmly attached.
