Method
Crochet narrow mesh strips with a solid border. Join the strip ends at top and bottom, then twist the strips around one another to form a symmetrical open cage.
Formation / Construction Plan
Make 6 long mesh bands in mixed colors.
Block the bands straight before shaping.
Stack top ends and bottom ends, then twist alternate bands left and right.
Secure crossings at two or three hidden points if desired.
Finish with beads, loop and tassel.
Full Pattern
Pattern note: This is an original approximation developed from the visible design language of the reference image. Gauge and yarn choice can change the finished proportions, so compare your work to the listed size and adjust as needed.
Mesh Band (make 6): Ch 63. Row 1: dc in 7th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch* across. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in first dc, *ch 2, dc in next dc* across. Turn.
Rows 3–4: Repeat Row 2.
Border Round: Ch 1, sc evenly around all four sides, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join. Fasten off.
Accent Edge: With a second color, join at one long edge and sl st or crab stitch across. Repeat on opposite long edge if desired.
Top Cord: Ch 55, sl st back through all chains for a firm loop. Fasten off.
Tassel: Wrap yarn around a 14 cm card 45 times, tie top, cut loops, wrap neck and trim.
Assembly and Finishing
Align the six top ends and sew through all layers. Cover the join with a small wrapped yarn collar.
Separate bands evenly around a circle. Twist three clockwise and three counter-clockwise, crossing them at the middle.
Bring all bottom ends together and sew through all layers. Adjust the cage until spacing looks even.
Thread two wooden beads above the cage and two below it.
Attach the hanging loop above the top beads and the tassel below the bottom beads.
Adjustment Notes
If the mesh collapses, crochet with a smaller hook or thread fine craft wire through the border stitches before shaping.
