This fresh and fruity table runner features two big bunches of purple grapes with bright green leaves, one at each end, joined by a column of white lace diamonds. Each diamond has a solid center surrounded by an open lattice of little windows, and purple chevron bands add a bold pop of color down the middle. It is perfect for kitchen tables, summer dining, harvest decor, and wine themed parties.
The runner is made in four parts. First you crochet the white lace diamonds and add the purple chevron trim. Next you make the grape circles and leaves. Finally you join the diamonds into a column and sew the grape clusters and leaves to each end.

Part 1: The White Lace Diamonds (make 4)
Each diamond is a granny style square that is turned on its point when you join the runner.
With white, chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet), work 2 double crochet in the ring, and chain 2. Work 3 double crochet and chain 2 three more times. Join. You have 4 corners.
Rounds 2 to 6: Chain 3 and double crochet in each stitch along the sides. In each corner space, work 2 double crochet, chain 2, and 2 double crochet. Join at the end of each round. These solid rounds make the textured center of the diamond.
Round 7: Chain 5 (counts as a double crochet and chain 2). Skip 2 stitches and double crochet in the next stitch. Chain 2 and repeat around. In each corner space, work a double crochet, chain 3, and a double crochet. Join.
Round 8: Slip stitch into the first space. Chain 3 and work 2 double crochet in the same space. Chain 2 and work 3 double crochet in the next space. Repeat around. In each corner space, work 3 double crochet, chain 3, and 3 double crochet. Join.
Rounds 9 to 12: Repeat Rounds 7 and 8, working the open mesh into the spaces of the round before. This makes the lattice of round windows shown in the photo.
Round 13: Chain 1 and single crochet in each stitch and 2 single crochet in each space around, with 3 single crochet in each corner. Join and fasten off.
Each diamond should measure about 30 cm along each side.
Part 2: The Purple Chevron Trim
The chevrons are worked on 2 of the diamonds, across the solid center, so they form a V shape when the diamonds are turned on point.
Join purple at the outer edge of the solid center, on the left side.
Row 1: Chain 1 and single crochet in the back loop only of the stitches of Round 6, working across 2 sides of the center and placing 3 single crochet at the corner. Turn.
Row 2: Chain 3 and work a V stitch in every other stitch across, working a V stitch, chain 2, and a V stitch at the corner. Turn.
Row 3: Chain 1 and single crochet in each stitch and space across, with 3 single crochet at the corner. Fasten off.
On the second diamond, work Rows 1 to 2 only for the smaller chevron.
Part 3: The Grape Circles (make 22)
With purple, make a magic ring.
Round 1: Chain 1 and work 8 single crochet in the ring. Join.
Round 2: Chain 1 and work 2 single crochet in each stitch around. Join. You have 16 stitches.
Round 3: Chain 1, then single crochet in the next stitch and 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around. Join. You have 24 stitches.
Rounds 4 to 8: Continue increasing 8 stitches in each round, working 1 more single crochet between increases each time. You have 64 stitches.
Round 9: Working in the back loop only, slip stitch in each stitch around. This makes the neat raised rim shown in the photo. Join and fasten off.
Each circle should measure about 10 cm across. Make 12 circles for the large cluster and 10 for the small cluster.
Part 4: The Grape Leaves (make 8)
With green, chain 16.
Round 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc in the next 2 chains, dc in the next 3 chains, tr in the next 4 chains, dc in the next 3 chains, hdc in the next chain, and 3 sc in the last chain. Work back down the other side of the chain in the same order. Join.
Round 2: Chain 1 and single crochet around the leaf, working a small picot at the tip. Join.
Round 3: Work front post slip stitches up the center to make the raised vein, then work 3 short diagonal veins on each side. Fasten off.
Assembly
Turn each diamond on its point. Lay them in a column with the corners just touching, placing the chevron diamonds second and third so the purple V shapes point down.
With white, sew each pair of diamonds together where their side corners and tips meet, so they overlap slightly in a zigzag, as shown in the photo.
For the large cluster, lay the 12 circles in rows of 2, 4, 3, 2, and 1, making a triangle shaped bunch. Sew each circle to its neighbors where they touch.
For the small cluster, lay the 10 circles in rows of 1, 2, 3, and 4, and sew them together the same way.
Sew the large cluster under the bottom diamond and the small cluster under the top diamond, so the circles tuck just under the white points.
Sew 4 leaves in a cross shape at the top of each grape cluster, where it meets the lace.
Weave in all ends on the back.
Blocking
Lightly dampen the runner and pin it flat. Pin each diamond point sharply and open every lattice window. Pin the grape circles round and flat. Do not press the leaves so they stay raised.
Ways to Use Your Grape Runner
Use it as a centerpiece for a kitchen or dining table.
Make a single grape cluster as a hot pad or trivet.
Make the grape circles on their own as a set of coasters.
Use it as a decoration for wine tasting nights or harvest parties.
Make a shorter version with 2 diamonds for a side table or dresser.
Color Ideas

Cherry clusters with green leaves on red and white for a cheerful retro style
Tips for Success
Count your stitches after each increase round so the grape circles lie flat.
If the circles ruffle, go down one hook size or skip an increase round.
Block the diamonds before joining so they line up evenly.
Pin the grape clusters and leaves in place before sewing to check the layout.
