Red and White Heart Spiral Hanging Ornament Crochet Pattern

This cheerful hanging ornament features a bold striped heart in red and white, with a candy stripe spiral twisting down below it. Finished Size

Part 1: The Striped Heart
The heart is worked in rounds from the center out, changing colors to make the stripes.
Round 1: With red, make a magic ring. Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet) and work 3 treble crochet, 4 double crochet, chain 1, 1 treble crochet, chain 1, 4 double crochet, 3 treble crochet, and 1 double crochet in the ring. Chain 3 and slip stitch into the ring. Pull the ring closed to form a small heart.
Round 2: Chain 1. Work 2 single crochet in each stitch around the top curves, 1 single crochet in each stitch along the sides, and 3 single crochet in the chain 1 space at the bottom point. At the dip at the top center, skip 1 stitch so the dip stays sharp. Join.
Round 3: Chain 2 (counts as a half double crochet). Work 2 half double crochet in every second stitch around the top curves and 1 half double crochet in each stitch along the sides, with 3 half double crochet in the bottom point. Skip 1 stitch at the top dip. Join. Fasten off red. This solid red heart is the center.
Round 4: Join white. Chain 1 and single crochet in each stitch around, increasing on the top curves and working 3 single crochet in the bottom point. Join and fasten off.
Round 5: Join red. Chain 2 and half double crochet in each stitch around, increasing on the top curves and working 3 half double crochet in the bottom point. Join and fasten off.
Round 6: Join white. Repeat Round 4. Fasten off.
