General Materials
Use white blue red green cream skin tone brown black orange yellow and a small amount of gold yarn. Use a 3 mm to 4 mm hook. You will also need fiberfill a yarn needle scissors strong cord beads ribbon or a crochet bow and lightweight plastic baubles.
Basic Spiral Ribbon
For each hanging ch 145. Row 1 work 3 dc in the fourth chain from hook and 3 dc in every chain across. The strip will curl strongly. Work one edge in the main color and one edge in the contrast color using sc. For the snowman use blue and white. For Santa use red and white. For the tree use green cream and a small yellow or gold edging.
Blue Snowman Topper
Head Round 1 make 6 sc in MR. Round 2 inc to 12. Round 3 work 1 sc then inc to 18. Round 4 work 2 sc then inc to 24. Round 5 work 3 sc then inc to 30. Rounds 6 to 11 sc around. Place eyes between Rounds 8 and 9. Add an orange nose and embroidered smile. Round 12 work 3 sc then dec around to 24. Round 13 work 2 sc then dec to 18. Stuff. Round 14 work 1 sc then dec to 12. Round 15 dec around and close.
Blue hat. Start with 6 sc in MR. Work 2 rounds even. Increase to 9 then 12 then 18 then 24 over several rounds. Continue until the hat fits the head. Add a white brim with two rounds of sc and sew on a white pom pom. Blue scarf. Ch 38. Work 4 rows of hdc. Add short fringe. Sew around the neck.
Decorate the snowman spiral with small white snowflakes. Thread blue white and silver beads down a center cord. Attach a blue bow near the bottom and one blue bauble plus one white snowflake below the bow.
Red Santa Topper
Head. With skin tone follow the same head pattern as the snowman. Add black eyes a small pink nose and rosy cheeks. Beard. With white yarn attach around the lower face and make a row of small puff stitches. Make a second lower row with slightly longer puff stitches. Moustache. Make two small 5 chain curves and sew above the beard.
Santa hat. With red make 6 sc in MR. Work 3 rounds even. Increase slowly every second round until the hat fits the head. Add a white brim and white pom pom. Add two small green holly leaves and three red berry knots near the brim. Red scarf. Ch 35 and work 4 hdc rows.
Decorate the red spiral with white snowflake stitches and small holly motifs. Add red pearl and gold beads to the center cord. Attach a red bow near the bottom and finish with one red and one gold bauble.
Green Christmas Tree Topper
Start with 6 sc in MR. Work one round even. Increase to 12. Work one round even. Increase to 18. Work one round even. Make the first branch layer by repeating sc hdc 3 dc hdc sc around selected stitches. Below it work another round and make wider shells with 5 dc. Make a third lower branch layer with 7 dc in each shell. Add a brown trunk with a small 6 chain rectangle. Decorate with red bead knots and tiny yellow stars. Make a yellow five point star topper and sew it to the top.
For the green spiral use green as the main color and cream as the contrast. Add small yellow stars along the front edge. Thread green white and gold beads down the center cord. Attach a dark green bow near the bottom. Finish with one green bauble and one yellow star charm.
Final Assembly For All Three
Sew each topper securely to the top of its spiral. Thread the strong center cord behind the topper and through the middle of the spiral. Add beads at regular intervals and tie small knots so they do not slide. Attach the bow around 10 cm above the bottom. Add the hanging baubles below. Add a loop at the top and check the balance before displaying.
