Materials
DK or light worsted yarn in dark green, cream, light blue, red, white, gold, and a small amount of bright red for berries.
Crochet hook 3 mm to 3.5 mm.
Yarn needle.
Scissors.
Four key rings or small metal rings.
Optional small beads for the holly berries or star center.
Optional fabric stiffener for the snowflake and star.

Basic Spiral Pattern
Use this same spiral method for all four ornaments. Change only the color and top decoration.
Row 1. Ch 70 for a small keychain spiral. Ch 85 for a slightly longer spiral.
Row 2. Work 3 dc in the 4th ch from the hook.
Continue with 3 dc in every remaining chain.
The strip will curl naturally while you work.
Fasten off and shape the spiral gently with your fingers.
If the spiral is too loose, use a smaller hook or work 4 dc in every second chain.
If the spiral is too tight, steam it lightly from a safe distance and open the coils by hand.
Design 1. Green Holly Spiral
Make the basic spiral with dark green yarn.
Holly Leaves
Make 2 leaves.
Ch 8.
Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook work sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc.
Work 3 sc in the last chain.
Continue on the opposite side with sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc.
Sl st to close.
Fasten off and leave a sewing tail.
Holly Berries
Make 3 berries with red yarn.
MR.
Work 6 sc in the ring.
Sl st to the first sc.
Pull the ring tight and fasten off.
Roll each small circle slightly between your fingers to make it look rounded.
Assembly
Sew the two leaves side by side above the spiral.
Sew the three red berries in the center of the leaves.
Make a hanging loop with ch 12.
Attach the loop to the metal ring.
Sew the top of the spiral under the holly cluster.
Design 2. Cream Spiral
Make the basic spiral with cream yarn.
For a thicker look use hdc instead of dc in a final edge row.
Join cream yarn to one outer edge.
Work 1 sc in each visible edge stitch.
Fasten off.
Ch 14 for the hanging loop.
Attach the loop directly to the metal ring.
Sew the top of the spiral securely to the loop base.
Design 3. Blue Snowflake Spiral
Make the basic spiral with light blue yarn.
White Snowflake
MR.
Round 1. Work 6 sc in the ring. Join with sl st.
Round 2. Repeat this 6 times. Ch 6. Sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook. Ch 3. Sl st in the same chain. Sl st down the remaining chain. Sl st in the next sc of the center ring.
Fasten off.
Block the snowflake flat before sewing.
Assembly
Sew the snowflake to the top front of the blue spiral.
Ch 12 with blue yarn for the hanging loop.
Attach the loop to the metal ring.
Sew the spiral top under the snowflake so the ornament hangs straight.
Design 4. Red Star Spiral
Make the basic spiral with red yarn.
Gold Star
MR.
Round 1. Work 10 sc in the ring. Join with sl st.
Point 1. Ch 5.
Sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook.
Sc in the next ch.
Hdc in the next ch.
Dc in the last ch.
Skip 1 center stitch and sl st in the next center stitch.
Repeat the same point 4 more times for a total of 5 points.
Fasten off and block the star lightly.
Assembly
Sew the gold star over the top front of the red spiral.
Add one small gold bead in the star center if desired.
Ch 12 with red yarn for the hanging loop.
Attach the loop to the metal ring.
Sew the spiral top firmly behind the star.
Finishing
Weave in every yarn end.
Shape each spiral so the coils are even.
Lightly block the star and snowflake.
Check the metal ring attachment before using the ornament.
