Materials
Use smooth cotton or soft acrylic yarn in light pink for the main body and bright pink for the horns, wing edging, spikes, toes, and small details. A 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm crochet hook works well. You will also need polyester fiberfill, two safety eyes around 16 mm to 20 mm, optional pink eye washers or felt rings, a yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers, and pins for assembly. If the toy is for a small child use embroidered eyes instead of safety eyes.
Finished Size
With medium yarn and a 3 mm hook the finished dragon can measure about 28 cm to 34 cm tall while seated. The size will change with yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.
Abbreviations
MR means magic ring. Ch means chain. Sl st means slip stitch. Sc means single crochet. Hdc means half double crochet. Dc means double crochet. Inc means 2 single crochet stitches in the same stitch. Dec means single crochet 2 stitches together. BLO means back loop only. FLO means front loop only. Rnd means round.
Head
Use light pink yarn. Work in continuous rounds.
Rnd 1. MR 6 sc. 6 stitches.
Rnd 2. Inc in every stitch around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 3. 1 sc then inc. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 4. 2 sc then inc. Repeat around. 24 stitches.
Rnd 5. 3 sc then inc. Repeat around. 30 stitches.
Rnd 6. 4 sc then inc. Repeat around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 7. 5 sc then inc. Repeat around. 42 stitches.
Rnd 8. 6 sc then inc. Repeat around. 48 stitches.
Rnd 9 to 15. Sc in every stitch around. 48 stitches.
Rnd 16. 6 sc then dec. Repeat around. 42 stitches.
Rnd 17. Sc around. 42 stitches.
Rnd 18. 5 sc then dec. Repeat around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 19. Sc around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 20. 4 sc then dec. Repeat around. 30 stitches.
Rnd 21. 3 sc then dec. Repeat around. 24 stitches.
Place the safety eyes between Rnds 12 and 13 with about 9 to 10 stitches between them. Add the optional pink eye rings before securing the washers. Stuff the head firmly but keep the front soft enough for shaping.
Rnd 22. 2 sc then dec. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 23. 1 sc then dec. Repeat around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 24. Dec around. 6 stitches.
Fasten off and close the opening. Leave a long tail only if you prefer to sew the neck directly to the head.
Muzzle
Use light pink yarn. The muzzle is made as an oval and lightly stuffed.
Rnd 1. Ch 7. Starting in the second chain from the hook work 5 sc. Work 3 sc in the last chain. Continue on the opposite side with 4 sc. Work 2 sc in the last chain. 14 stitches.
Rnd 2. Inc. 4 sc. Inc in the next 3 stitches. 4 sc. Inc in the last 2 stitches. 20 stitches.
Rnd 3. 1 sc then inc. 4 sc. Repeat 1 sc then inc three times around the curved end. 4 sc. Repeat 1 sc then inc twice. About 26 stitches.
Rnd 4 to 6. Sc around.
Fasten off with a long tail. Add a little stuffing. Pin the muzzle low on the front of the head and sew it evenly. Use bright pink yarn to embroider two small nostrils if desired.
Neck And Body
Use light pink yarn. The neck and body can be worked as one piece.

Rnd 3. 1 sc then inc. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 4 to 9. Sc around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 10. 2 sc then inc. Repeat around. 24 stitches.
Rnd 11. Sc around. 24 stitches.
Rnd 12. 3 sc then inc. Repeat around. 30 stitches.
Rnd 13. Sc around. 30 stitches.
Rnd 14. 4 sc then inc. Repeat around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 15 to 18. Sc around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 19. 5 sc then inc. Repeat around. 42 stitches.
Rnd 20 to 25. Sc around. 42 stitches.
Rnd 26. 5 sc then dec. Repeat around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 27. Sc around. 36 stitches.
Rnd 28. 4 sc then dec. Repeat around. 30 stitches.
Rnd 29. Sc around. 30 stitches.
Rnd 30. 3 sc then dec. Repeat around. 24 stitches.
Rnd 31. 2 sc then dec. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Stuff the body firmly. Keep the upper neck slightly softer so the head can sit naturally.
Rnd 32. 1 sc then dec. Repeat around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 33. Dec around. 6 stitches.
Fasten off and close. Sew the narrow end of the neck to the underside of the head. Angle the head slightly forward for the look shown in the photo.
Arms Make 2
Use light pink yarn. Change to bright pink for the hand if desired.

Rnd 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 3. 1 sc then inc. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 4 to 6. Sc around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 7. 1 sc then dec. Repeat around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 8 to 16. Sc around. 12 stitches.
Stuff the lower two thirds lightly. Flatten the top and work 6 sc through both layers. Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the arms to the sides of the upper body with a slight forward angle.
Legs Make 2
Use light pink yarn.
Rnd 1. MR 6 sc.
Rnd 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 3. 1 sc then inc. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 4. 2 sc then inc. Repeat around. 24 stitches.
Rnd 5 to 8. Sc around. 24 stitches.
Rnd 9. 2 sc then dec. Repeat around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 10 to 14. Sc around. 18 stitches.
Rnd 15. 1 sc then dec. Repeat around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 16 to 18. Sc around. 12 stitches.
Stuff firmly at the foot and more lightly at the upper leg. Flatten the top and work 6 sc through both layers. Leave a long tail for sewing.
Toe Claws
Use bright pink yarn. For each foot make 3 small toe tips. Ch 4. Starting in the second chain from the hook work 1 sl st then 1 sc then 1 hdc. Fasten off. Sew three toe tips to the front of each foot. For a rounder look you can instead embroider three thick bright pink stitches over the front edge.
Large Horns Make 2
Use bright pink yarn. Stuff only the base so the horns stay light.

Rnd 2. Sc around. 4 stitches.
Rnd 3. Inc then 3 sc. 5 stitches.
Rnd 4. Sc around. 5 stitches.
Rnd 5. Inc then 4 sc. 6 stitches.
Rnd 6. Sc around. 6 stitches.
Rnd 7. 2 sc then inc. Repeat twice. 8 stitches.
Rnd 8 to 10. Sc around. 8 stitches.
Rnd 11. 3 sc then inc. Repeat twice. 10 stitches.
Rnd 12 to 14. Sc around. 10 stitches.
Rnd 15. 4 sc then inc. Repeat twice. 12 stitches.
Rnd 16 to 18. Sc around. 12 stitches.
Fasten off with a long tail. Lightly bend each horn backward while sewing. Place them symmetrically on the top sides of the head.
Small Head Spikes
Use bright pink yarn. Make 6 to 8 spikes in different sizes. For a small spike use MR 4 sc then work 2 plain rounds and fasten off. For a medium spike work MR 4 sc then inc once to 5 stitches and work 3 plain rounds. Sew the spikes in a row behind the large horns and down both sides of the head.
Back Spikes
Use bright pink yarn. Make 8 to 12 small triangular spikes. Ch 5. Starting in the second chain from the hook work 1 sl st then 1 sc then 1 hdc then 1 dc. Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the spikes down the center back from the neck toward the tail area. Alternate small and medium sizes for a more natural look.
Wings Make 2
Use light pink yarn for the wing fabric and bright pink for the edging and ribs. Work the two wings as mirror images.
Row 1. Ch 18. Starting in the second chain work 17 sc. Turn.
Row 2. Ch 1. Work 15 sc. Leave the last 2 stitches unworked. Turn.
Row 3. Ch 1. Work 13 sc. Leave the last 2 stitches unworked. Turn.
Row 4. Ch 1. Work 11 sc. Leave the last 2 stitches unworked. Turn.
Row 5. Ch 1. Work 9 sc. Turn.
Row 6. Ch 1. Work 7 sc. Turn.
Row 7. Ch 1. Work 5 sc. Turn.
Do not cut the yarn yet. Work sc evenly down the stepped outer edge and around the long lower edge. At each outer point add 2 extra sc so the wing opens instead of curling.
Change to bright pink yarn. Work 1 round of sc around the wing. At each point work 1 sc then ch 2 then 1 sc in the same space to make a tiny tip.
For the wing ribs use bright pink yarn. Surface slip stitch from the inner top corner to each outer point. Make 4 or 5 rib lines. This creates the webbed look from the photo. Fasten off and block the wings flat before sewing.
Optional Wing Support
If you want the wings to stand more firmly use a thin covered craft wire. Shape the wire along the upper wing edge and sew it between the main wing fabric and the bright pink border. Do not use exposed wire for a toy intended for a small child.
Tail
Use light pink yarn. The reference photo shows only part of the tail but a medium tapered tail helps balance the seated dragon.
Rnd 1. MR 6 sc.
Rnd 2 to 4. Sc around. 6 stitches.
Rnd 5. 1 sc then inc. Repeat around. 9 stitches.
Rnd 6 to 8. Sc around. 9 stitches.
Rnd 9. 2 sc then inc. Repeat around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 10 to 13. Sc around. 12 stitches.
Rnd 14. 3 sc then inc. Repeat around. 15 stitches.
Rnd 15 to 19. Sc around. 15 stitches.
Stuff lightly. Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the wider end to the lower back and curve the tail around one side of the body.
Optional Tail Spikes
Make 3 to 5 small bright pink triangular spikes using the same method as the back spikes. Sew them along the upper side of the tail.
Face Details
Use bright pink or dark pink yarn to embroider two small nostrils on the muzzle. Add a short curved smile if you want a softer expression. If the eyes look too exposed add one round of surface slip stitches around each eye in bright pink to create the colored eye rim seen in the photo.
Assembly Order
First sew the muzzle to the head. Add the large horns and small head spikes. Sew the neck and body to the head. Attach the legs low on the body so the dragon can sit. Sew the arms to the upper sides. Attach the tail to the back. Pin the wings before sewing and check that both sides sit at the same height. Sew the wings firmly along the inner straight edge. Add the back spikes last so you can center them between the wings.
Shaping Tips
Use pins to test the position of every piece before sewing. Keep the body well stuffed but do not overfill the neck. Add a small amount of extra stuffing behind the cheeks if you want a rounder face. When sewing the muzzle pull the lower stitches slightly tighter than the upper stitches so the nose points forward. For the seated look angle the legs slightly outward and place the feet flat.
Finishing
Weave in every yarn end securely. Shape the wings and horns with your fingers. If your yarn allows it use very light steam from a distance to relax the wing fabric. Do not touch acrylic yarn directly with a hot iron. Check all sewn parts before displaying or gifting the toy.
