Materials
Cotton or acrylic yarn in black, orange, purple, white, green and a small amount of pink.
Crochet hook 3 mm to 4 mm.
Fiberfill.
Black embroidery thread.
Yarn needle and scissors.
Optional safety eyes in black or yellow.
Strong black hanging cord.
Finished Size
Approximately 55 to 70 cm long. Small characters are about 5 to 8 cm tall.

Method
Crochet the witch hat first. Then make the long striped spiral. Make the ghost, cat, pumpkin, skull and bat separately. Attach each motif to the spiral with short black cords.
Formation
The spiral is the main support. Keep the turns loose enough for the hanging characters to sit in the open spaces without touching each other.
Full Pattern
Witch Hat Cone
With black yarn make an MR.
Round 1. 4 sc in MR.
Round 2. Sc around.
Round 3. Inc in first stitch, 3 sc. 5 stitches.
Round 4. Sc around.
Round 5. Inc in first stitch, 4 sc. 6 stitches.
Continue increasing by 1 stitch every second round until you have about 28 to 32 stitches.
Work 3 plain rounds.
Fasten off and lightly stuff the tip only if you want it to keep a curved shape.
Hat Brim
With black yarn make an MR.
Round 1. 8 sc.
Round 2. Inc around. 16 stitches.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 24 stitches.
Round 4. Repeat 2 sc, inc around. 32 stitches.
Round 5. Repeat 3 sc, inc around. 40 stitches.
Round 6. Repeat 4 sc, inc around. 48 stitches.
Sew the cone in the center of the brim.
Add a purple band with one round of surface sc around the base of the cone.
Orange Star
With orange yarn make an MR and 10 sc.
For each point ch 5.
Starting in second ch work sl st, sc, hdc, dc.
Sl st into the next base stitch.
Repeat 5 times and sew the star to the hat band.
Striped Spiral
Ch 150 with black yarn.
Row 1. Hdc across.
Row 2. Change to purple and hdc across.
Row 3. Change to orange and hdc across.
Row 4. Change to black and work 2 hdc in every stitch across.
The strip will curl strongly. Shape it into 6 to 8 turns.
Ghost
With white yarn make an MR.
Round 1. 6 sc.
Round 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 18 stitches.
Rounds 4 to 8. Sc around.
Round 9. Repeat 1 sc, dec around. 12 stitches.
Stuff lightly.
For the lower edge repeat sl st, ch 3, 2 dc in same stitch, sl st in next stitch to create a wavy base.
Arms. Ch 5 and sc back. Make 2 and sew to the sides.
Embroider eyes, smile and pink cheeks.
Black Cat
Head. With black yarn make 6 sc in MR.
Round 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 18 stitches.
Rounds 4 to 7. Sc around.
Round 8. Repeat 1 sc, dec around. 12 stitches.
Stuff lightly and close.
Ears. Make 2 small triangles by ch 4 and decreasing one stitch per row.
Body. Make 6 sc in MR, increase to 12, then work 5 plain rounds and close.
Tail. Ch 16 and sc back. Curve and sew to the body.
Sew head to body. Add yellow eyes, a pink nose and white whiskers.
Pumpkin
With orange yarn make 6 sc in MR.
Round 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 18 stitches.
Round 4. Repeat 2 sc, inc around. 24 stitches.
Rounds 5 to 8. Sc around.
Round 9. Repeat 2 sc, dec around. 18 stitches.
Round 10. Repeat 1 sc, dec around. 12 stitches.
Stuff firmly.
Round 11. Dec around and close.
Wrap a long orange strand around the ball 5 or 6 times to create pumpkin sections.
Make a tiny green stem and sew on top.
Embroider black triangle eyes and a smiling mouth.
Skull
With white yarn make 6 sc in MR.
Round 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 18 stitches.
Rounds 4 to 7. Sc around.
Round 8. Repeat 1 sc, dec around. 12 stitches.
Rounds 9 to 10. Sc around.
Stuff lightly and close with decreases.
Embroider two large black eye circles, a small triangle nose and short vertical mouth lines.
Bat
Body. With black yarn make 6 sc in MR and increase to 12.
Work 4 plain rounds then decrease and stuff lightly.
Wing. Ch 10.
Row 1. Sc in second ch, hdc, dc, 3 tr, dc, hdc, sc.
Row 2. Turn. Work back with sc and hdc while making 2 small chain points along the lower edge.
Make 2 wings and sew to the body.
Add purple edging if desired and embroider tiny white fangs.
Assembly
Attach a hanging loop to the top of the witch hat.
Sew the spiral under the center of the brim.
Hang the ghost near the upper left side.
Hang the cat on the upper right side.
Hang the pumpkin below the ghost.
Hang the skull lower on the right side.
Attach the bat at the bottom.
Adjust all cords until the mobile hangs straight.
