Materials
Cotton or acrylic yarn in white plus red or blue.
Small amount of orange, black and pink yarn.
Crochet hook 3.5 mm to 4.5 mm.
Fiberfill.
Yarn needle and scissors.
2 jingle bells per hanging.
Strong white hanging cord.
Optional safety eyes.
Finished Size
Approximately 55 to 70 cm long. The snowman head is about 10 to 12 cm across.

Method
Crochet the snowman head and face first. Make the long hat and scarf in the main color. Crochet the wide spiral in alternating cream and color sections. Add small snowflakes, holly leaves or round bobbles before attaching the bells.
Formation
The head sits directly over the spiral. A strong central cord runs from the head through the middle of the spiral and splits into two branches at the bottom for the bells.

Snowman Head
With white yarn make an MR.
Round 1. 6 sc.
Round 2. Inc around. 12 stitches.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 18 stitches.
Round 4. Repeat 2 sc, inc around. 24 stitches.
Round 5. Repeat 3 sc, inc around. 30 stitches.
Round 6. Repeat 4 sc, inc around. 36 stitches.
Rounds 7 to 14. Sc around.
Insert eyes between Rounds 9 and 10 with 6 or 7 stitches between them.
Round 15. Repeat 4 sc, dec around. 30 stitches.
Round 16. Repeat 3 sc, dec around. 24 stitches.
Stuff firmly.
Round 17. Repeat 2 sc, dec around. 18 stitches.
Round 18. Repeat 1 sc, dec around. 12 stitches.
Round 19. Dec around. Close.
Carrot Nose
With orange yarn make 4 sc in MR.
Rounds 2 to 4. Sc around.
Round 5. Repeat 1 sc, inc twice. 6 stitches.
Round 6. Sc around.
Fasten off and sew to the center of the face.
Smile and Cheeks
Embroider a curved smile with black yarn.
Add 2 or 3 small black dots on each side if desired.
Add pink blush with yarn or a small amount of textile blush.
Long Hat
With red or blue yarn make an MR.
Round 1. 6 sc.
Round 2. Sc around.
Round 3. Repeat 1 sc, inc around. 9 stitches.
Round 4. Sc around.
Continue increasing by 3 stitches every second round until the hat fits the head.
Work 5 to 7 plain rounds.
For a striped blue hat, alternate 2 rounds blue and 2 rounds white near the upper section.
For a red hat, add one white snowflake embroidery panel if desired.
Make a large pompom and sew to the tip.
Hat Ribbed Brim
Join the main color at the lower hat edge.
Work 3 rounds of front post and back post hdc or simple BLO hdc to create a ribbed look.
Fasten off and place the hat on the head.
Scarf
Ch 55 with the main color.
Rows 1 to 5. Hdc across.
Fasten off.
Add short fringe to both ends.
Sew a small snowflake applique to one end if desired.
Two Color Spiral Ribbon
Ch 145 with the main color.
Row 1. Hdc across.
Row 2. Change to white and hdc across.
Row 3. Change to main color and hdc across.
Row 4. Work 2 hdc in every stitch across in the main color.
Row 5. Join white to one outside edge and sc across.
Shape into 5 to 7 turns.
Round Bobbles
With white or main color yarn make 6 sc in MR.
Round 2. Sc around.
Round 3. Dec around and close.
Make 6 to 10 bobbles and sew them to alternating sections of the spiral.
Tiny Holly for Red Version
Make 2 small green leaves by ch 6 and working sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc along both sides.
Make 3 tiny red berries from 5 sc in MR.
Sew small holly clusters onto the cream sections.
Tiny Snowflake for Blue Version
With white yarn make 6 sc in MR.
Repeat ch 4, sl st back down the chain, sl st in next base stitch around.
Make 3 to 5 snowflakes and sew to blue sections.
Assembly
Attach a hanging loop securely to the top of the hat.
Sew the hat to the head and wrap the scarf around the neck.
Attach the top of the spiral under the head.
Thread a strong white cord from the head through the center of the spiral.
At the bottom split the cord into two equal strands.
Attach one bell to each strand.
Make sure the bells hang at the same level.
Check that the spiral turns freely and does not collapse
