Materials
• Cotton or cotton-blend yarn in cream, white, pink, red, black, lavender, yellow, brown, light green, dark green, and any accent colors you prefer.
• 2.5–3.0 mm crochet hook, or the size needed to produce a firm fabric.
• Polyester fiberfill for the amigurumi toppers and small stuffed motifs.
• 6–8 mm safety eyes, or black embroidery thread for embroidered eyes.
• Pink embroidery thread or yarn for cheeks.
• Yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers, and pins.
• Optional: small beads, clear drops, bells, or jump rings for decorative lower charms.
• Optional: floral wire only for display pieces that will remain out of reach of children.

Method and Overall Construction
Each hanging is built in four stages: make the character topper, crochet the long spiral ribbon, crochet the flowers/leaves and small decorative motifs, then assemble everything on a hanging cord. A finished piece made with medium-fine cotton yarn will usually measure about 50–70 cm from the hanging loop to the bottom charm, depending on the spiral length.
Basic Spiral Ribbon
Use this construction for all four designs. Change colors to match the character.
Foundation: ch 90–110. Use a shorter chain for a compact hanging or a longer chain for a dramatic drop.
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, work 2 hdc in every ch across. The strip will begin to curl automatically.
Row 2: ch 1, turn, work 2 sc in every st across for a tighter spiral. FO, leaving a long sewing tail.
For a striped spiral, make two narrower spirals in contrasting colors, twist them together, and secure them with a few hidden stitches at intervals.
For the soft two-tone look in the photo, alternate color sections every 10–15 stitches while making the foundation or work the second row in a contrasting color.
Small Leaf Motif
Ch 7. Starting in 2nd ch from hook: sc, hdc, dc, 2 tr, dc. In the last ch work 3 sc.
Continue along the opposite side of the foundation chain: dc, 2 tr, dc, hdc, sc.
Sl st to close. FO and leave a tail for sewing.
For a sharper leaf, lightly pinch the tip and block flat.
Simple Daisy
Center: with yellow, work 6 sc in MR. Sl st to first sc and FO.
Join white in any stitch. Repeat around: ch 3, 2 dc in same st, ch 3, sl st in same st. Make 6 petals total.
For a fuller flower, add a second round of larger petals behind the first round.
Tiny Bell Flower
With pink or lavender, make MR and work 6 sc into the ring.
Next round: inc around – 12 sts.
Next round: sc around.
Final round: repeat (sc, ch 2, sc) in every other stitch to create a softly flared edge.
FO. Add a short green stem and sew to the spiral.
1. Butterfly Garden Spiral Hanging
Head and Body
With cream yarn, Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR.
Rnd 2: inc around – 12 sts.
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) around – 18 sts.
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) around – 24 sts.
Rnd 5–9: sc around.
Insert eyes between Rnds 6 and 7, about 6–7 sts apart. Embroider lashes and a small smile.
Rnd 10: (2 sc, dec) around – 18 sts.
Rnd 11: (sc, dec) around – 12 sts. Stuff firmly.
Rnd 12: dec around. FO and close.
For the short body below the head, make a small pink oval: 6 sc in MR, inc to 12, work 5–6 rounds even, then decrease and close.
Antennae
Make 2. Ch 10 in brown. Sl st back along the chain.
At the tip, attach a small pink ball: 6 sc in MR, sc around for 1 round, then dec around. Stuff very lightly.
Sew the antennae symmetrically to the top of the head.
Wings
Make 4 wing pieces: 2 larger upper wings and 2 smaller lower wings.
Large wing: ch 8. Work around the chain with sc, hdc, dc, tr increases at the rounded end, then mirror the stitches back down the opposite side.
Add one more round, increasing at the broad outer curve. Use pink for the outer edge and pale green or lavender for the inner section.
Small wing: repeat the same idea beginning with ch 6.
Embroider or crochet small daisies onto the wings, then sew all four wings behind the body.
Butterfly Spiral Decoration
Make the spiral in pink, cream, and pale green.
Sew 5–7 small leaves at alternating points down the spiral.
Add 4–6 daisies and a few tiny pink flowers.
Finish with a small stuffed heart at the bottom.
2. Ladybug Garden Spiral Hanging
Head
With cream yarn, work the same round head as the butterfly.
Add black antennae with red tips and embroider a smiling face with pink cheeks.
Ladybug Wing Shells
Make 2 red ovals. Ch 7. Work around the foundation chain, increasing at both ends until each oval is about 7–8 cm long.
Work 1–2 rounds even to give the shell slight depth.
Add 3–4 small black circles to each red wing. Each spot can be made with 6 sc in MR and sewn flat.
Sew the two shells to a small black body behind the head, leaving a slight gap in the center.
Ladybug Spiral Decoration
Make the spiral in red, white, and pale green.
Attach green leaves and white daisies along the curve.
For tiny ladybugs, crochet a small red oval, add a black head and black embroidered dots, then sew them to the spiral.
Finish the bottom with a daisy or small red charm.
3. Snail Garden Spiral Hanging
Snail Head and Neck
With cream yarn, Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR.
Rnd 2: inc around – 12.
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) around – 18.
Rnd 4–7: sc around.
Insert or embroider eyes and add a small smile.
Continue several rounds with 18 sts to create a short neck. Stuff lightly.
Decrease gradually and close.
Eye Stalks
Make 2 short cream tubes with 6 sc in MR and 4–5 rounds even.
At the tip, make a small white ball and add a black embroidered pupil or tiny safety eye.
Sew the stalks to the top of the head.
Shell
With lavender yarn, make a flat circle: 6 sc in MR, then increase evenly each round until the circle reaches about 7–8 cm across.
Make a second matching circle. Sew the two circles together around the edge with a little stuffing inside.
Embroider a spiral line from the center outward or add a raised surface chain.
Sew the shell securely to the back of the snail body.
Snail Spiral Decoration
Make the long spiral in lavender, cream, and pale green.
Add leaves and hanging bell flowers along the spiral.
Use small lavender daisies for extra accents.
Finish with a small pink heart decorated with a tiny flower.
4. Bumblebee Garden Spiral Hanging
Bee Head and Body
With yellow yarn, make a round head using the same head pattern as above.
Add embroidered closed eyes, a tiny smile, and pink cheeks.
For the body, make an oval beginning with 6 sc in MR. Increase to 24 sts, then work several rounds even.
Change between yellow and brown every 2–3 rounds to create stripes.
Stuff firmly, decrease gradually, and close.
Bee Antennae
Make 2 brown chains about 8–10 sts long and sl st back along each chain.
Add a small yellow ball at the end of each antenna and sew them to the head.
Wings
Make 2 white or cream wings. Ch 7 and work around the chain with sc, hdc, dc, and tr increases at the tip.
Add a second round of sc with occasional increases so the wings lie flat.
For a lacy look, replace some stitches with ch-2 spaces on the second round.
Sew one wing to each side of the upper body.
Bee Spiral Decoration
Make the spiral in yellow, cream, and light brown.
Add white daisies, dark green leaves, and 2–3 small pink bell flowers.
Finish with a sunflower: brown center, yellow petals, and 2 green leaves.
Small Heart
Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR.
Rnd 2: inc around – 12.
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) around – 18.
Work the two top lobes separately by dividing the round in half and decreasing each side slightly to create the heart shape.
Stuff lightly and close. Alternatively, crochet two flat heart appliqués and sew them together.
Small Sunflower
Center: with brown, 6 sc in MR, then inc around – 12. FO.
Join yellow. Repeat around: ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sl st into the next center stitch.
Repeat until the center is surrounded by petals. Add 1–2 leaves and sew to the bottom of the bee spiral.
Formation and Shaping
After crocheting a spiral, hold it at both ends and gently stretch it once. Release it and let the corkscrew settle naturally.
If the spiral twists unevenly, rotate individual sections by hand before attaching decorations.
Block flat flowers and leaves lightly before sewing. Do not flatten stuffed amigurumi pieces.
Keep heavier motifs close to the top of the hanging and lighter motifs toward the bottom so the decoration hangs straight.
For a fuller spring-garden look, alternate leaves on the left and right sides of each spiral rather than placing them in a straight line.
Assembly
1. Lay the finished topper and spiral on a flat surface and decide the final length.
2. Sew the top of the spiral securely to the underside of the character. Reinforce this join several times.
3. Pin the flowers, leaves, tiny insects, and hanging motifs in place before sewing. Check the balance while the piece is hanging vertically.
4. Sew each appliqué through several stitches of the spiral so it remains facing forward.
5. Attach the final heart, daisy, sunflower, or other charm at the lower end.
6. Make a hanging loop by chaining 35–45 stitches, then sl st back through the chain. Fold in half and sew securely to the top of the character.
