Construction overview
Make two long color-striped crochet bands.
Twist them together into a symmetrical double helix.
Tack the bands at crossing points.
Crochet three small Halloween character motifs.
Sew one character into each large opening and finish with a tassel.
Striped helix bands
Ch 100 to 140. Work 3 to 5 rows, changing colors every row or every two rows. Increase slightly along the outside edge so each band curves naturally.
Double-helix assembly
Anchor both bands together at the top. Twist them in opposite directions around a central cord, forming three large oval openings. Tack the bands together wherever they cross.
Pumpkin motif

Witch or skeleton motif

Assembly and shaping tips

Blocking
Lightly damp-block flat pieces before final assembly. For three-dimensional spirals, avoid flattening them. Instead, shape each turn with your fingers and let the ornament dry while hanging or supported around a smooth cylinder. Do not apply high heat to acrylic yarn.
