Materials
Use DK cotton or a smooth light worsted cotton blend. Use sage green for the large medallions and leaves. Use cream for the lace joins and flower centers. Use dusty pink and light pink for the flowers. A 3.0 mm to 3.5 mm crochet hook works well for this project. You will also need a tapestry needle scissors stitch markers and blocking pins.
Finished Size
A finished runner made with four large medallions can measure about 95 cm to 115 cm long and about 32 cm to 38 cm wide after blocking. You can make it longer by adding more medallions.
Abbreviations
MR means magic ring. Ch means chain. Sl st means slip stitch. Sc means single crochet. Hdc means half double crochet. Dc means double crochet. Tr means treble crochet. Inc means two stitches in the same stitch. Sp means space. Rep means repeat.
Construction
Make the large sage medallions first. Then add a cream lace border around each medallion. Join the medallions in one long line. Make the large layered flowers the small flowers and the leaves separately. Sew all floral pieces over the joins and around the outside edges. Finish by blocking the runner flat.
Large Sage Mandala Medallion Make 4
Round 1. With sage yarn make an MR. Ch 3. Work 15 dc into the ring. Join with sl st. You have 16 dc.
Round 2. Ch 4. Work 1 dc in the same stitch. Ch 1. Work 1 dc in the next stitch. Ch 1. Repeat around and join. You have 16 dc with 16 ch 1 spaces.
Round 3. Sl st into the first ch 1 space. Ch 3. Work 2 dc in the same space. Ch 2. Work 3 dc in the next ch 1 space. Ch 2. Repeat around. Join.
Round 4. Sl st to the center dc of the first 3 dc group. Ch 1. Work 1 sc. Ch 5. Work 1 sc in the center dc of the next group. Repeat around. Join.
Round 5. Sl st into the first ch 5 space. Ch 3. Work 4 dc in the same space. Ch 2. Work 5 dc in the next ch 5 space. Repeat around. Join.
Round 6. Ch 1. Work 1 sc in each dc. Work 2 sc in each ch 2 space. Join.
Round 7. Ch 4. Skip 1 stitch. Work 1 dc in the next stitch. Ch 1. Skip 1 stitch. Repeat around. Adjust by skipping no stitch once or twice if needed so the round lies flat.

Cream Lace Border Around Each Medallion
Join cream yarn in any outer shell.
Round 1. Ch 1. Work sc evenly around the whole medallion. Place extra stitches at the top of each shell so the work stays flat.
Round 2. Ch 5. Skip about 3 stitches. Work 1 sc in the next stitch. Repeat around. Join.
Round 3. In each ch 5 space work 1 sc 1 hdc 5 dc 1 hdc 1 sc. Repeat around. Join.
Round 4. Ch 3. Work 1 sc in the center dc of the next shell. Ch 3. Repeat around. Join and fasten off.
Joining The Medallions
Lay the four medallions in one straight line with the cream lace edges touching.
Use cream yarn and a tapestry needle or slip stitches to join one medallion to the next across about 5 cm to 7 cm of the touching edges.
Keep the joins loose so the runner stays flat.
After joining all medallions block the long base before adding the flowers.
Large Layered Pink Flower Make 5 Or 6
Center Round 1. With cream yarn make an MR. Work 10 sc in the ring. Join.
Center Round 2. Work 2 sc in each stitch. Join. You have 20 sc. Fasten off cream.
Inner Petal Round. Join dusty pink in any stitch. Ch 2. Work 3 dc in the same stitch. Ch 2. Sl st in the next stitch. Repeat around to make 10 small petals.
Middle Petal Round. Join light pink behind the first petal round. Ch 3. Work 4 tr around the post area between two petals. Ch 3. Sl st in the next gap behind the petals. Repeat around to make 10 larger petals.
Outer Petal Round. Join dusty pink behind the middle round. Ch 3. Work 6 tr in the next gap. Ch 3. Sl st in the next gap. Repeat around.
Final Edge. Work a loose row of sc around the outer petals if you want the edges more defined.
For the raised center make 8 small cream popcorn or bobble stitches around the middle. Fasten off with a long sewing tail.
Small Pink Flower Make 10 To 14
With cream yarn make an MR. Work 6 sc in the ring. Join.
Change to light pink.
Petal 1. Ch 2. Work 2 dc in the same stitch. Ch 2. Sl st in the same stitch.
Repeat the same petal in each of the remaining 5 stitches.
Fasten off with a long sewing tail.
Sage Leaf Make About 20
Ch 13 with sage yarn.
Work in the second chain from the hook. Sc in the first chain. Hdc in the next chain. Dc in the next 2 chains. Tr in the next 4 chains. Dc in the next 2 chains. Hdc in the next chain. Sc in the last chain.
Work 3 sc in the end chain to turn the leaf.
Work back along the opposite side in reverse order. Sc. Hdc. 2 dc. 4 tr. 2 dc. Hdc. Sc.
Join with sl st.
For a center vein work surface sl st from the base to the tip. Fasten off with a sewing tail.
Small Bud Make 8 To 12 Optional
With dusty pink make an MR. Work 6 sc in the ring.
Round 2. Work 2 sc in each stitch. You have 12 stitches.
Round 3. Sc in each stitch.
Round 4. Work sc2tog around until the opening becomes small.
Add a tiny amount of stuffing if you want the bud round. Close and fasten off.
Flower Placement
Place one large flower over each join between two medallions.
Place one more large flower near each end of the runner if the layout needs balance.
Add 3 to 5 leaves around every large flower.
Place small flowers in the open spaces near the outer cream lace.
Add small buds in groups of two or three beside some large flowers.
Keep a little open lace visible so the runner does not look crowded.
Final Assembly
Pin all flowers leaves and buds in place before sewing.
Sew the large flowers first using matching yarn and small hidden stitches.
Sew the leaves next. Stitch along the center vein and leave the outer edges slightly free for a dimensional look.
Sew the small flowers and buds last.
Check that the runner is balanced from one end to the other.
Weave in every yarn end carefully.
Blocking And Finishing
Wet block or lightly steam block the runner according to the yarn label.
Pin the cream lace loops and medallion edges into an even shape.
Do not flatten the layered flowers too much.
Shape the leaves while damp so the tips stay pointed.
Allow the runner to dry completely before removing the pins.
