Ingredients:
2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cups chicken broth
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
Instructions:
In a large pot or deep skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
Add the chopped onion to the bacon drippings and sauté until soft and golden, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the trimmed green beans to the pot and pour in the chicken broth. Stir everything together and bring to a gentle simmer.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the beans cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and flavorful.
Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper
