Purple Flower Swirl Crochet Table Runner

Materials

Use cream yarn for the open lace sections and trim. Use medium purple yarn for the round side motifs. Use cream brown and olive green for the flowers and leaves. A 3 mm to 3.5 mm hook works well. You will also need a tapestry needle scissors stitch markers and optional small round beads for the outer trim.

Finished Size

A medium runner can finish around 95 cm to 120 cm long and 28 cm to 34 cm wide. Make fewer or more repeats to change the length.

Abbreviations

MR means magic ring. Ch means chain. Sl st means slip stitch. Sc means single crochet. Hdc means half double crochet. Dc means double crochet. Tr means treble crochet. Inc means increase. Dec means decrease. BLO means back loop only. FLO means front loop only.

Purple Round Motif

Round 1. With purple make MR and work 12 dc into the ring. Join with sl st.

Round 2. Ch 3. Work 2 dc in every stitch around. Join. You will have 24 dc.

Round 3. Ch 3. Work 1 dc in next stitch then 2 dc in next stitch. Repeat around. Join.

Round 4. Ch 3. Work 2 dc then inc. Repeat around.

Round 5. Ch 3. Work 3 dc then inc. Repeat around.

Round 6. Ch 1. Sc in every stitch. Fasten off and block flat.

Cream Half Circle Lace Motif

Row 1. Ch 6. Join to form a ring. Work 10 dc into the ring. Turn.

Row 2. Ch 3. Work 2 dc in every stitch. Turn.

Row 3. Ch 3. Work 1 dc then 2 dc in next stitch. Repeat across. Turn.

Row 4. Ch 4. Skip 1 stitch. Dc in next stitch. Repeat to form open spaces.

Row 5. Ch 3. Work 2 dc into each chain space.

Row 6. Ch 4. Skip 2 stitches. Sc in next stitch. Repeat for an open fan row.

Row 7. Work 7 dc into each large chain space and sc between fans.

Row 8. Work sc around the curved edge. Add a small picot after every 4 or 5 stitches if you want a decorative edge.

Cream Connecting S Curve

Ch 55 to 65 with cream.

Row 1. Hdc in second chain from hook and across.

Rows 2 to 5. Ch 1 and turn. Hdc across. Add 2 hdc in the first and last stitch on alternate rows so the strip bends gently.

Block the strip into an S shape before sewing the motifs to it.

Large Cream Flower

Round 1. With brown make MR and 10 sc. Join.

Round 2. Inc around to 20 sc.

Round 3. Change to cream. In every second stitch work sl st ch 3 3 dc ch 3 sl st to make 10 petals.

Round 4. Join behind the first petal layer. Make 10 larger petals using ch 4 and 5 dc in each petal loop.

Fasten off. Shape the petals with your fingers.

Leaf Pattern

Ch 10 with olive green.

Work sc hdc 3 dc 2 tr dc hdc sc along one side.

Work 3 sc in the tip.

Work the same stitches down the other side.

Finish with surface sl st through the center for a leaf vein.

Assembly

Arrange the cream half circles in alternating directions along the cream S strip. Place one purple round motif in each open side area. Sew the motifs together with hidden stitches. Make three large flowers and place them at the main joins. Add two or three leaves around each flower. Add optional cream bead trim around the outer edge. Block the runner flat before use.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Steam lightly from a safe distance or wet block. Keep the open lace sections stretched evenly so the runner lies flat.
