This crochet hanging is inspired by the blue and white winter decoration in the photo. It has a large layered snowflake at the top. A soft blue and white spiral hangs below it. Pearl style beads and clear drops decorate the sides. A long blue and white tassel finishes the bottom. The pattern below is a simple photo inspired version written from scratch.
Materials
Use white yarn and light blue yarn in cotton or soft acrylic. Use a crochet hook between 3 mm and 4 mm. You will also need a tapestry needle and scissors. Small pearl beads and clear drop beads can be added if you want the same elegant look. Use strong thread for the bead strands. For the tassel use white and light blue yarn. A small decorative button can be used in the center of the snowflake.
Basic Stitches
This project uses a magic ring. It also uses chain stitch. Single crochet. Half double crochet. Double crochet. Slip stitch. Increase. And simple picot points.
Large Snowflake
Start with white yarn. Make a magic ring and work 12 single crochet stitches inside. Join the round.
Round 2. Work 2 single crochet stitches in every stitch. You will have 24 stitches.
Round 3. Make 8 points around the circle. For each point chain 6. Slip stitch in the second chain from the hook. Work 1 single crochet in the next chain. Work 1 half double crochet in the next chain. Work 1 double crochet in the next chain. Work 1 treble crochet in the last chain. Slip stitch into the base round. Repeat 8 times.
Round 4. Join light blue yarn. Work a loose line of single crochet around the outer edge of every point. Add one small picot at the tip of each point.
Round 5. Join white yarn again. Work one small decorative round inside the blue edge. Keep this round loose so the snowflake stays flat.
Sew a decorative button or a small yarn rosette in the center. Add one pearl bead to the tip of every point.
Main Spiral
Use white yarn. Chain between 130 and 160 stitches. Work 3 double crochet stitches in every chain. The strip will curl while you work.
Join light blue yarn to the outside edge. Work one row of single crochet around the spiral. Keep the blue row thin. If you want a stronger edge work one more row of slip stitches in blue.
If the spiral is too tight stretch it gently by hand. If it is too loose work one more edge row.
Pearl And Drop Decorations
Cut several short pieces of strong thread. Add one pearl bead and one clear drop bead to each thread. Tie the threads to the tips of the snowflake and along the outside edge of the spiral. Keep the drops at different heights so the hanging looks soft and balanced.
Tassel
Cut white and light blue yarn into equal lengths. Use around 30 to 40 strands. Fold the strands in half. Tie them near the fold. Wrap another piece of yarn around the top to make a tassel head. Trim the bottom evenly.
Add a few small silver or pearl beads around the tassel head if you want a richer finish.
Final Assembly
Sew the top of the spiral under the snowflake. Add the pearl and drop strands around the snowflake and spiral. Tie the tassel to the bottom of the spiral. Add a strong hanging loop above the snowflake. Check every bead and knot before hanging.
